Refurbished and extended GP medical centre.
Whiteladies Health Centre is a busy GP medical practice constructed in the 1970’s located on a steeply sloping site in Clifton, Bristol/
Visitors to this two story building were required to negotiate a flight of steep outside steps to gain entry to the lower floor, and thence to the main reception inconveniently located on the upper floor.
We were commissioned to carry out a comprehensive Access Audit of the building, which identified numerous issues of non-compliance with the Disabilities Discrimination Act, including unusable designated parking , a non-compliant (and frequently non –operational), lift, and the complete lack of level access to the Main Entrance.
Options concerning provision of ramped access were examined and found to be un-workable, and the chosen design included for a platform lift to enable access from the ground level to the lower floor, within a new single storey entrance lobby. The car park was extensively excavated, and designated parking was extensively excavated, and designated parking spaces locate next to the new lobby. Internally, a new lift was installed, modifications were made to the staircase and circulation routes, way-marking was improved and a fully compliant WC installed.
