This new house was completed in 2008 on the site of a former 1960′s “chalet-style” bungalow, situated in the popular suburb of Henleaze. Planning permission was obtained to remove the roof and replace it with a new first floor, supported by a new structure inserted at ground floor level.

We investigated the cost implications of removing all of existing building, tax considerations being in favour of entirely new construction.

The contours of the site suggested that – rooms at first floor level would benefit from better daylight and views out, therefore the south frontage of the central area is predominately glazed, with a large open landing at first floor level which gives access to a balcony. The landing space continues up to second floor level with an internal balcony which can be closed off to enclose a private bedroom, much enjoyed by the clients’ son.
